Just a brief update on key refugee & asylum campaigning work from us this week, including a couple of crucial actions you can take over the festive period.
As we close out 2025 and our attention turns to 2026 we wanted to send our thanks to all of our partners, local, community based and national, to the people who come to our country to make home here and to all of you that take a few moments to send a letter, sign a petition, talk to your neighbours and family members about asylum truths challenging the asylum myths.
2026 will no doubt bring more anti-refugee measures, rhetoric and laws, but everyday we see brave, resilient people arrive here with new hope for their futures and communities wrapping around them with offers of support. We know our country is far kinder & wiser than our politics, we know that because of all of the work you do everyday to drive change. Thank you from the team here at Asylum Matters.
We wish you all a very peaceful, restful and joyful festive period, & wish you love, strength & solidarity for 2026.

Parliamentary Momentum on Border Violence: Urge Your MP to Back EDM No.2486
On Monday 8th December, our parliamentary drop-in event to launch the Humans for Rights Network report was a huge success, bringing together MPs, peers and sector colleagues to confront the urgent realities of border violence and the asylum system. The strong turnout and support in the room showed a clear appetite in Parliament to act, and we’re building on that momentum. We urge you to write to your MPs using the tool below, to ask them to back the Early Day Motion (EDM) No.2486 on border violence tabled by Nadia Whittome MP.
This is a crucial area of campaigning work, with building evidence of UK tax money being spent on actions and activities driving deaths. Please take a moment to write to your MP and ask them to support the EDM.

Refugee Led Petition on Settlement Changes
We’ve been supporting a group of Refugees in the West Midlands to draft a petition. They’ve written about the terrifying impact of the proposed changes to migration rules, with a particular focus on settlement and family reunion, in a public petition calling for an end to the earned settlement proposals.
We’d be hugely grateful for any help sharing this with your networks, on social media, and of course you can sign it too!
